Portsmouth on the brink of a cultural shift / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

The city’s historic environment and cultural landscape, combined with the local ‘Pompey Passion’ lies at the centre of the city’s sense of place.

This has become the catalyst for growth that is making Portsmouth a rather surprising and intriguing cultural destination. The sense of city character and identity are critical to this.

CURe in its partnership with the Portsmouth City Council are poised to face the challenge of finding more efficient and effective ways of delivering quality public places, and providing sound evidence for investment.

It is important that those involved in the design and development of the public realm adapt to change and continue to look at new ways of improving the urban environment, forming new partnerships in this process.

Portsmouth UniverCities is a two day conference led by CURe at the University of Portsmouth with Portsmouth City Council, and brings together in one place a remarkable and distinguished group of International and National experts in the art of urban regeneration and creative placemaking.

The conference will provide delegates with a unique opportunity to explore and debate best practice through exposure to successful regeneration practice; providing insights into the processes, partnerships and funding that made these cities and their projects successful and inspirational.

There are many ways to measure what makes the city’s economy work and how it is improving. This workshop explores the issues related to economic performance and provides discussion on how cities can develop a strong economic base on which to emerge from the recession and capitalise on the opportunities that may arise.

Adaptable Environments
Technological advancements have had a significant impact on the realities of working
from home, live – work housing, the home-based workstation. How can we design sufficiently flexible work environments to deal with a rapidly changing world?
